Combined Driving
At an early age, Matthias took up an interest in carriage driving and with the assistance, guidance and support of master Rudolph Ernst, he was able to enter the competitive field in both Single and Pair driving in the early 1980's.  His love for this discipline encouraged him to additionally proceed to receive accredited certificates in carriage driving from the German Equestrian Federation (FN), including Four in One Hand to perform and teach the classic Benno von Achenbach driving system which is the official driving system in Germany since 1899.  It is a small fact that Matthias would frequently drive his International Three Day Eventing show horses in a carriage for  supplemental endurance conditioning training.

Matthias latest project has been a collaboration with West Coast Fells in the importation of well trained Fell ponies.  It is in this venture that Matthias proceeds to scout Fell ponies that have the potential to be well rounded competition and pleasure horses.  He then brings them into his farm to begin their preparation in training on the ground, under saddle and in the carriage.  Once these ponies are deemed to be ready to be sold they are imported into the United States.  It is one of these ponies by the name of Generaal that has recently given Matthias the opportunity to re-entered the carriage driving show circuit.  In a short time, Generaal has won his way into the hearts of many spectators that have witnessed him competing.  Six months after arriving into the USA, this five year old has competed and finished second in Preliminary Division shows, receiving a special award for the best overall Marathon results of all competitors.
